Iran and Iraq differ in battlefield reports

Iraq said Tuesday its forces had repulsed a new Iranian offensive at the border in the southern sector of the Gulf war front. Iraq also said its planes were attacking Iranian troops still trying to cross the frontier.

Iran said its offensive resulted in the recapture of key oil fields occupied by Iraq around the town of Ein-e-Khosh; Iraqi radio denied Iran had had any success, insisting the fighting in the area was not over.
