US-Japan relations slip, opinion polls indicate

The number of Americans and Japanese who regard relations between their countries as good has fallen to its lowest point in five years, according to an opinion poll conducted by the Japanese daily Yomiuri Shimbun and Gallup pollsters.

Americans listed Japan as the world's 10th most trustworthy country. The Japanese regarded the United States as the most trustworthy country. On US-Japanese relations, 33 percent of Japanese and 47 percent of Americans said they were good, the lowest rate in five years, the daily said.
