Scandal involving British governor rocks Bermuda
An election victory by the ruling United Bermuda Party was overshadowed by the disclosure that the British Foreign Office has asked for a report on alleged financial irregularities involving the British governor of the island. Britain confirmed that Gov. Sir Richard Posnett's expense account is being investigated.
The Bermuda government has told Britain it wants Sir Richard sent home. The demand came eight days before a visit by Queen Elizabeth II.
