Microcomputer sales likely to skyrocket

Software sales to the corporate, business-oriented user of microcomputers will be up 75 percent in unit volume in 1983 - up 61 percent in dollar outlays - according to a Software News survey. The survey reflects some price erosion as well as newer offerings at lower pricing levels.

The survey respondents reported having 21,014 microcomputers in place, and nearly half of these are either linked already to large corporate computers, or will be during 1983.

The survey confirmed that corporate users of personal computers prefer, by nearly a 4-to-1 margin, to buy their software direct from the software distributor or from the computer supplier. Corporate users ranked retail stores a distant third as a source of microsoftware.
