School-segregation issue revived in Louisville, Ky.

Public schools in metropolitan Louisville are drifting back toward racial segregation despite a 1975 order by a US district court mandating desegregation, the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights charged.

Jefferson county officials had previously said they would make changes in the desegregation plan late next year , but the commission said the new drift toward segregation was significant enough that action was needed for the begining of the 1983-84 school year.
