Missouri made it official: it will pay $3.5 million in the $36.7 million buy out of Times Beach. The state and the federal government decided to buy the private property there after soil tests showed excessive levels of toxic dioxin.

Meanwhile, Waste Management Inc. said it didn't illegally dump dichlorobenzidines in Chicago. And Dow Chemical Company denied it put pressure on the Environmental Protection Agency to change a report blaming the company for dioxin contamination in Michigan.
