China says Viet artillery hits along border areas

China reported heavy artillery attacks along its border with Vietnam and said thousands of peasants had fled the area. The official New China News Agency said Vietnamese artillery destroyed a hospital, a school, and housing in a community and more than 3,000 peasants fled. The Chinese reports have not specified the exact location of the attacks, but have said there were two fronts - one each in Guangxi and Yunnan Provinces. Earlier, China accused the Soviet Union of creating tension in Southeast Asia by supporting Vietnam and planning Vietnamese domination of the region.
