Rockets boost satellite closer to proper orbit

Engineers fired tiny rockets aboard the troubled communications satellite for three hours. A space agency spokesman said initial readings on the firing - the first not shut down or interrupted because of rocket overheating or communications problems - indicated the satellite's low point was boosted about 650 statute miles. The agency hopes to gradually boost it into its proper orbit 22,300 miles above Earth.
