Mozambique, after attack, seeks talks with S. Africa

Mozambique warned of more South African air raids, but said it was prepared to talk peace with the white minority government in Pretoria. Mozambique said it was prepared to participate in any initiative designed to bring peace to the region. But the country's information minister warned Mozambique citizens to expect more South African attacks like the Monday air raid that killed six civilians and injured more than 40. The raid was condemned by Britain, France, the US, and the Soviet Union. But Gen. Magnus Malan, the South African defense minister, defended the raid, made in retribution for a guerrilla bombing in Pretoria May 20. He said it would show the world South Africa's ability to protect itself.
