The US crime rate has dropped, the Justice Department says. Twenty-nine percent of households were touched by crime in 1982, 1 percent lower than in 1981 and nearly 3 percent less than in 1975. Wealthy, urban, and black households are more susceptible to violent crime or theft, according to the report. The figures did not include murder.
