Weekend blasts take heavy toll in Lebanon
About 35 people were killed and 65 wounded when a car packed with explosives blew up in a vegetable market at the eastern Lebanese town of Baalbek, state-run Beirut radio said. Baalbek is under the overall control of Syrian troops, but has recently been the scene of clashes between rival Palestinian factions.
Since Friday, at least 24 other people have been killed and about 50 wounded in violence throughout Lebanon.
Meanwhile, US envoy Robert McFarlane began talks with Syrian President Hafez Assad on the removal of foreign forces from Lebanon.
