Another US marine killed in Lebanon
Grenade and submachine-gun battles spread across the south of Beirut Monday, hours after a US marine was killed and five others were wounded in a gun battle near Beirut airport, military sources said.
The fighting between Shiite Muslim gunmen and Lebanese Army soldiers cut the main road to the US Marine base at Beirut airport, claimed the life of a Lebanese soldier, and wounded an Italian peacekeeper. Former President Camille Chamoun warned that peace talks scheduled for Thursday could be torpedoed by the sudden increase of violence or a boycott by any of Lebanon's factions.
