Iran rejects truce in Gulf sought by Security Council

Iran has rejected a new bid by the Security Council to end its three-year-old war with Iraq and said it would pay no further heed to the United Nations body. The Council had called on the belligerents Monday to cease immediately all hostilities in the Gulf region.

In Baghdad, the Iraqi government Tuesday accepted the Security Council's resolution, but warned it would take ''necessary measures'' if Iran rejected the call.
