Senate passes measure to raise US debt limit

The Senate early Thursday passed a stalled bill raising the public debt limit which President Reagan said is needed for the federal government to continue borrowing to pay its bills.

Legislation including a proposal for an additional $8.4 billion for the International Monetary Fund was still on the agenda although Congress was scheduled to adjourn today.
