Military police may stay when troops quit Grenada

The US is considering leaving military police on Grenada with Caribbean troops to replace US combat soldiers ordered to return home, military officials here said.

''We are not doing anything right now that the MPs (military police) could not do,'' the tactical commander for US forces in Grenada, Col. Terry Scott, said.

Last week the White House said all US combat troops would be withdrawn from Grenada by Dec. 23.
