Tass says Gromyko-Shultz talk will skip arms control

The Soviet news agency Tass confirmed Sunday that Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko would meet with Secretary of State George Shultz in Stockholm next month , but it said they would not discuss arms control.

The State Department said Gromyko had agreed to meet with Shultz on Jan. 18. Tass said Washington was issuing optimistic statements about the meeting to mislead Americans into thinking things could continue as before the deployment of US cruise and Pershing 2 missiles in Western Europe.
