Freed Bhutto daughter decides to quit Pakistan

Benazir Bhutto, elder daughter of executed former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and one of Pakistan's most prominent political figures, was freed after almost three years of custody Tuesday and flown to Europe. She left with her younger sister, Sanam. Family sources said they were going to Zurich.

The move caught her allies by surprise, but official sources in Islamabad said she had sought government permission to go abroad and was then released.

In a statement distributed to reporters after her departure, she pledged to continue working for a revival of democracy in Pakistan.
