Nicaragua weighs holding elections before US vote
Nicaragua is considering holding elections before the US elections in November because of concern that President Reagan, if reelected, would step up US-backed attacks and hinder Nicaraguan voting, political sources said Wednesday.
The ruling Sandinist National Liberation Front, which has promised to announce an election date next Tuesday, refused to comment on suggestions that the polls might be held before 1985, as had been planned.
The US Congress has approved a $24 million aid program for 1984 to antigovernment rebels staging attacks from Honduran camps in an effort to topple the leftist government.
