Rioting follows attempt to slay IRA leader in Ulster
Young Catholics rioted early Thursday over the shooting of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, hijacking buses and stoning cars in Belfast and hurling more than 20 firebombs at police in Londonderry.
Security across the British-ruled province was tightened as soldiers guarded the hospital bed where Adams, head of the illegal Irish Republican Army's political arm, was recovering from an assassination attempt Wednesday.
Protestant extremists claimed responsibility for the shooting. Many Protestants regretted that the assassination attempt failed.
The Rev.Ian Paisley, a hard-line Protestant leader, said: ''It's a natural law that you reap what you sow.''
