Churchill's war bunker is opened to the public
With more than a hint of patriotic nostalgia, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher officially reopened the underground wartime bunker of her illustrious predecessor, Winston Churchill, Wednesday.
Three generations of the Churchill family, including the war leader's eight-year-old great-grandson Jack, were among guests at the opening of what promises to be one of Britain's top tourist attractions.
It was Mrs. Thatcher's idea to reopen the rooms where Churchill's war Cabinet met more than 100 times between 1940 and 1945. Museum authorities have restored the network of corridors and operations rooms to their wartime condition.
