Setback for opponents of Canada's sports pool
A Quebec judge ruled Thursday that United States baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn and 11 of the 26 US major-league baseball teams do not have the legal right to oppose in Ottawa courts the province's planned sports betting pool.
The ruling by Superior Court Judge Claude Benoit does not stop the presidents of the National and American leagues and 15 baseball clubs from continuing their battle against the government's plan. Their request for an injunction will go ahead in Quebec Superior Court Tuesday as scheduled.
