US says it doubts Soviets will come to Olympics and Kremlin has plans for arrival East-bloc games
The Kremlin has drawn up plans for a communist-bloc athletic competition to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, Soviet journalist Victor Louis reported Wednesday. (At press time, Bulgaria was the only East-bloc ally to follow the Soviet lead in boycotting the games.)
Mr. Louis, who writes for London's Evening Standard newspaper, said the meet would be held to compete with the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
''Blueprints of the 'Red Olympics' are apparently already completed down to the last detail,'' he wrote. ''The alternative games would probably be announced at the last minute to throw the American (Olympics) organization into chaos.''
Louis has, in the past, had excellent contacts within the Soviet leadership.
