Pocket -size color TV is unveiled by Seiko

The Seiko watchmaking group unveiled Monday what it said is the first pocket-size color television using a liquid crystal screen. The sets, each weighing a pound, will go on sale in Tokyo in August at 84,800 yen and in the United States in September at $500 to $550. The company hopes to sell 30,000 sets in each country in the first six months.

Measuring about six inches long and three inches wide, the set uses a new ''thin-film transistor'' system. Its developers, Suwa Seikosha, are seeking to protect it with 10 major patents and 100 minor patents, a spokesman said.
