Acres (two) no longer mine

What I loved was the way the land fell away from the house in a proper bank by the wellcover and then more randomly.

I liked to stand in the lower field among the seedling evergreens and tall weeds beside the overgrown cellar hole of the gone barn and look up past the shed

to the woods until I felt both locked in and liberated, until I could draw that unspoiled plot of earth around me - like a shawl.
