GOP legislator seeks inquiry on Ferraro financial question

Rep. Dick Cheney (R) of Wyoming urged Thursday that the House Ethics Committee probe charges that Geraldine Ferraro failed to disclose all of her family financial holdings as required by Congress. Mr. Cheney, chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, told a press breakfast, ''We Republicans have been very tactful and discreet'' on the subject of Ms. Ferraro's financial reporting. ''We did not want to be accused of attacking a woman.''

Other GOP leaders have shied away from calling for the investigation. House GOP whip Trent Lott of Mississippi told the Monitor: ''I want to give her a chance to do it (make the disclosures) on her own.'' But Cheney said there ''should be an investigation by the Ethics Committee,'' because there is ''an obligation to enforce our rules.''
