Marchers in London demand British quit Northern Ireland

More than 2,000 demonstrators marched through central London Saturday calling for Britain's withdrawal from Northern Ireland. At 10 Downing Street, residence of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, the marchers handed over a black wreath in memory of a Republican who was killed by a plastic bullet when police stormed a Belfast rally a week ago.

The march also marked the anniversary of the entry of British troops into the province 15 years ago and commemorated the 2,350 people who have died in sectarian and politicial violence there since then.
