Poland keeps tight reign on freed political prisoners

The communist government says all but 22 of Poland's 652 political prisoners have been released under the amnesty declared last month, but authorities are keeping a tight rein on freed members of the outlawed Solidarity labor union.

Jacek Kuron, a leading dissident freed under the amnesty, said police detained him for two hours Friday and prevented him from meeting Solidarity founder Lech Walesa. The Army newspaper Soldier of Freedom also published a commentary attacking Kuron and other activists for ''already trying to peddle their old rubbish.''
