Judge removes Zaccaro from his role with estate
A state judge removed John Zaccaro, the husband of Democratic vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, as conservator of an estate from which he borrowed $175,000.
''The mere appearance of impropriety must be assiduously avoided,'' the judge said. ''There is no suggestion of dishonesty or malicious intent on the part of the conservator.''
The judge also said Mr. Zaccaro believed he was acting properly when he paid 12 percent interest on the borrowed money instead of the 10.5 percent interest it was earning. He ruled, however, that a ''trustee shall not place himself in a position where his interest is or may be in conflict with his duty.''
