India discloses the arrest of a Sikh in assassination

A Sikh police commando was arrested Oct. 31, the day Indira Gandhi was assassinated, authorities disclosed Wednesday in arguing against the Sikh's bail application. The commando, Jagtar Singh, is the first person reported arrested on charges of conspiring to kill the former prime minister.

The Hindustan Times newspaper, meanwhile, reported Wednesday that at least six members of Mrs. Gandhi's inner security ring were expected to be fired for allegedly failing to pass on their advance knowledge of the plan to kill her.
