US rejects visas for four Salvadorean women
The State Department said Saturday it had rejected visa requests from four Salvadorean women on grounds that they were involved in terrorist activities against the government of El Salvador.
The four had been due to receive the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award in the United States tomorrow on behalf of their group, the Salvadorean Mothers' Committee, which is openly critical of Salvadorean government policy and opposes US military involvement. The State Department did grant a visa to a fifth member of the group.
