Tips for teens hunting summer jobs

So you want a summer job! Here are things you can do to help you get a good job: Determine what you're good at. Have you had other jobs? A lemonade stand? Do you have special skills?

Discover what jobs are available. Don't just stick to the obvious jobs at big stores or restaurants. What about the smaller shops? Do your parents have relatives or friends who need summer help?

Show your strengths when you fill out a job application or make up a r'esum'e. What accomplishments are you most proud of? Get a written recommendation from someone you've helped.

Dress neatly and be polite.

Be prepared. Bring a pen or pencil to the interview. Be ready to emphasize the skills you have that an employer might need.

Be persistent. Contact employers again a few days after you've had the interview.
