Many thanks to Diana der Hovanessian, whose poems have long appeared in The Home Forum, for making today's page possible. Its elements are drawn from her manuscript of Gevorg Emin's ``For You on New Year's Day,'' translated from the Armenian by her and published in the International Poetry Forum's series of Byblos Editions. These excerpts are from the author's preface and poetry and from Yevgeny Yevtushenko's introductory essay and poem. A footnote explains: ``According to the directory of Soviet Armenian writers, Emin is the author of thirty volumes of poetry and twelve books of translations. He has also written two volumes of prose and two film scripts. His work has been translated into more than a dozen languages, and has won every top Soviet literary award.''
