Christmas With the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Shirley Verrett (PBS, 9-9:30 p.m.): Seasonal favorites from Salt Lake City. SATURDAY

Anne of Green Gables (PBS, 7-9 p.m.): Second part of Emmy winner about life in rural Canada.

Upstairs, Downstairs (PBS, 9:05-11 p.m.): Two memorable episodes from the first season of this Edwardian classic series.

Cousteau's Rediscovery of the World/Cape Horn: Waters of the Wind (WTBS/cable, 8:05-9:05 p.m.): [See preview at right.] SUNDAY

The Christmas Star (ABC, 7-9 p.m.): The Disney Sunday Movie stars Ed Asner as an escaped-convict in a Santa suit.

Leopard (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): ``Nature'' documents the life of an elusive female leopard over a two-day period on the African plains.

National Geographic Explorer: Afghanistan's Holy War (WTBS, 8-9 p.m.): [See preview at right.]

Promise (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Loyal brother, played by James Garner, tries to care for schizophrenic sibling, played by James Woods. Fine performances in a troubling but honest original drama.

A Smoky Mountain Christmas (ABC, 9-10 p.m.): Dolly Parton in an original musical about a country-music superstar and a group of orphans in rural Tennessee. MONDAY

Candle in the Wind (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): Traces religious freedom/repression in the Soviet Union since 1917.

A Year in the Life (NBC, 9-11 p.m.; also Tuesday and Wednesday, 9-11 p.m.): Sensitive, three-part miniseries about the life of a contemporary family in Seattle.

Nuclear Legacy (PBS, 10-11 p.m.): A look at the lethal by-products of nuclear weapons. TUESDAY

Rape: The Boundaries of Fear (PBS, 10:30-11 p.m.): How some women's lives are limited by their fear of rape. WEDNESDAY

Die Fledermaus (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): Ballet comedy based on the Johann Strauss operetta.

Mark Russell Comedy Special (PBS, 9-9:30 p.m.): TV's only political satirist before a live audience.

Goodbye, Mr. Speaker (PBS, 10-11 p.m.): A rare look at the private and public life of Congressman ``Tip'' O'Neill. Listings are in Eastern time; other zones may vary. Please check listings for all PBS programs, since local option often results in differing days and times.
