National Geographic Explorer (WTBS/cable, 9-11 p.m.): Short documentaries for the whole family.

MONDAY

The Nile With Brian Thompson (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): Repeat of ``River Journeys'' segment on an adventurous voyage from the Sudan to the Nile Delta.

George Gershwin Remembered (PBS, 9-10:30 p.m.): ``American Masters'' highlights the life and work of the versatile composer.

The Flood (PBS, 10:30-11 p.m.): ``Alive From Off Center'' retells the creation story in a video opera by Jaap Drupsteen, based on a Stravinsky work.

TUESDAY

Small Happiness (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): Premi`ere episode of ``One Village in China,'' a three-part series about life in a tiny rural community.

Boom Town (PBS, 10-11 p.m.): Premi`ere of three-part series, ``Silicon Valley,'' which looks at a region considered to be the heart of high-tech and the harbinger of tomorrow.

God Is Not Elected (NBC, 10-11 p.m.): In anticipation of the visit of Pope John Paul II, NBC News correspondent Maria Shriver investigates the state of the Roman Catholic Church in America.

WEDNESDAY

Mark Russell Comedy Special (PBS, 9-9:30 p.m.): TV's only regularly scheduled political satirist pokes irreverent fun at the nation's political newsmakers.

THURSDAY

Our World (ABC, 9-10 p.m.): One of 1987's best series, now canceled, repeats the program that recalled the autumn of 1946.

20/20 (ABC, 10-11 p.m.): Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs host TV's next-best (after ``60 Minutes'') newsmagazine show.
