Motown Merry Christmas (NBC, 9-10 p.m.): Unusual brand of Christmas music, ranging from a holiday rap to a Christmas song written by, would you believe, Redd Foxx.

TUESDAY The Secrets of the Lost Red Paint People (PBS, 8-9 p.m.): ``Nova'' traces the mystery of an ancient seafaring people on the northern Atlantic coasts of the US and Canada. Circus of the Stars (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): Stunts by celebrities.

WEDNESDAY Muppets Christmas Special (ABC, 8-9 p.m.): Home on the farm with Fozzie Bear. For Muppet fanciers. Candid Camera Christmas Special (CBS, 9-10 p.m.): Holiday misbehaving by lots of unsuspecting people. Julie Andrews: The Sound of Christmas (ABC, 9-10 p.m.): Julie Andrews in a musical frolic with Pl'acido Domingo, John Denver, and scenic Salzburg. Sherpa (PBS,10:30-11 p.m.): A look at the changing culture of the indigenous people of the Mt. Everest region. God and Politics: The Battle for the Bible (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): Second of three-part Bill Moyers series highlights schism within Southern Baptists.

THURSDAY The Three Kings (ABC, 9-1 p.m.): Offbeat Christmas parable about contemporary mental patients in Nativity pageant.
