Mother Church honored for feeding the hungry. COMMUNITY SERVICE

Boston Mayor Raymond Flynn yesterday issued the following: PROCLAMATION

Whereas, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, founded by Mary Baker Eddy in Boston in 1879 and settled in its present location in the Fenway in 1895, has become the center of a worldwide religious organization, and

Whereas, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, known the world over as The Mother Church, has, for many years, quietly provided high-quality social services to the community, and

Whereas, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, has each summer for the past 18 years invited hundreds of senior Bostonians to be its guests for luncheon in its beautiful employees dining room, and

Whereas, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, has also hosted many holiday festivities with the city's elder Bostonians, now

Therefore, I, Raymond L. Flynn, mayor of the city of Boston, proclaim Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1987, to be the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Day and encourage my fellow Bostonians to join me in recognizing and saluting the special accomplishments of this community-spirited church and wish its members, staff, and volunteers much continued success.
