ISLAMIC STATES DEBATE ACTION OVER RUSHDIE
RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA
An Iranian-sponsored resolution dealing with cultural attacks on Islam is stirring discussion at the Islamic Conference Organization meeting here. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said the 46-member organization is ``trying to handle it [the Salman Rushdie affair] in a way that will serve the interests of these communities, prevent any slander against our religion, and ask for the cooperation of other states to prevent any measures that will inflame emotions.''
But the head of the Iranian delegation said Islamic states supported a hard-line resolution attacking Western nations.
