WORTH NOTING ON TV

FRIDAY Great Performances (PBS, 9 p.m.-midnight): ``Rossini's Cinderella'' - as they're billing the familiar opera this time - is performed at the Salzburg Music Festival by a strong cast under Michael Hampe's direction, with Riccardo Chailly leading the Vienna Philharmonic. SUNDAY The Tonys (CBS, 9-11 p.m.): It's the bestowing of theater awards - and traditionally the production that shows 'em how's it's done. Yes, there's still plenty of hot air, but the tone is a little less clich'e-ridden and more direct than during Oscars, Emmys, and Grammies. This 43rd Tony Awards is hosted by Angela Lansbury and carried live from New York's Gershwin Theatre. The French Open (NBC, 3-6 p.m., E.T.): It's one of the four ``Grand Slam'' events in world tennis, and the network is providing same-day coverage of the day's best match. Innovation (PBS, 7:30-8 p.m.): Computers can sometimes draw a picture the eye cannot see - especially in astronomy. ``In the Image of Nature'' looks at this subject in a program more inviting and less daunting than its topic might suggest.

WEDNESDAY American Playhouse (PBS, 9-10 p.m.): Four films of various lengths are packed into this one-hour format entitled ``Imagining America,'' each director offering his vision of American life - or an aspect of it.
