WEST APPROVES AID TO POLAND, HUNGARY

European foreign ministers Tuesday backed a $650 million package of economic aid for Poland and Hungary. The aid package was unveiled last week as part of Western attempts to help the Eastern European countries reform their economies.

British Foreign Secretary John Major said it was ``very desirable'' to help the two countries, but said they must make economic reforms to sustain their societies.
