Juniper and Pinyon

Jewels of Light and Quiet

Sizzle and bubble liquid amber Inside the woodstove chamber Inside this house by ranges, Sing like organ pages Blowing from an old trees hymnal. Fly, smoke, the plans from my chimney. Winds lift this tarry savor Across the disk moon's brilliant neighbors: Pine tops, red cliffs, and brindled sky, This my message undisguised, Good cheer is my plain opinion When at home burning pinyon. Come, bring your long-hiked subject, Under a merry flag we'll test it. Under a merry flag we'll smoke it, Then add juniper to coal it, Then dine with embers that remain. Tomorrow the dark place won't explain The thing we were ready to do, To make friendship while pinyon cooled.
