KUWAIT SEEKS PROTECTION OF RECORDS
UNITED NATIONS, N.Y.
Kuwait proposed a Security Council resolution on Wednesday, asking the UN to safeguard its population records. Kuwait's UN Ambassador Mohammed Abulhasan said the purpose was to make sure Kuwait continued to exist, despite Iraq's attempts to resettle the population and destroy all records and identity cards. He said that 25 computer discs, showing all 1.75 million residents registered before the Iraqi invasion, had been smuggled out of the country. It includes addresses, fingerprints, and identifying marks of residents.
