MORE AMERICANS ARE DINING OUT

More American are dining out these days rather than fixing meals at home, according to the consumer expenditure survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 1989, Americans spent 58 percent of their total food expenditures on food at home, compared to 68 percent in 1980. On the other hand, 42 percent of the expenditures were spent on food away from home in 1989, up from 32 percent in 1980. The survey says this trend may be an indication of changes in American life styles, with fewer Americans having the time to prepare meals at home.
