CALIFORNIA'S ECONOMY WILL KEEP GROWING, STUDY SAYS

Despite the current economic slump, California will gain 5 million to 6 million new residents and up to 2.5 million new jobs by the year 2000, according to a study by University of California at Berkeley's Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics.Based on the most current data from the 1990 United States Census, Commerce Department, and other sources, the study also predicts that California will demand an additional 180 million to 230 million square feet of office space during the 1990s. The state's economy will need 250 million to 500 million square feet of industrial space by the year 2000, and demand for housing will range between 2 million and 3 million new units.
