BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES IN EAST EUROPE
* A recent poll of Eastern European attitudes toward capitalism by the Times Mirror Center for the People & the Press shows that the welcome mat is out for foreign investors.Nine out of 10 people surveyed in Czechoslovakia and Hungary endorse the idea of foreign businesses selling products and services in their countries. But many East Europeans have little awareness of Western brand-names. Nearly 7 out of 10 Bulgarians and 65 percent of Poles have either never heard of or don't have an opinion about McDonald's. Given a choice between a fixed salary and compensation based on performance, Eastern Europeans generally opt for the latter.
