Coming Home (to Yvonna)

Some time we'll think about

this day. It may be years

from now, but we'll say:

the rain and the dead battery

were only reminders of what we knew we would have together always: home There was money on the meter

where the car got stuck

and a phone three feet away - and

sooner than we could imagine

a man with resuscitating powers appeared, calling his patient back to life Always there are signs like this

along the way. We acknowledge them:

rain beating down on the roof

of the old car like a symphony

speaking to us our happiest thoughts: rain lashing the decks of a cargo ship moving out to sea and the long voyage, home
