Walking in Summer

A thin high wire whine of distant crows, a mourning dove sighing Woe, oh, woe, a phoebe repeating her name, a woodpecker chipping the dark, a jay screaming Shame, shame next door in the small park next to my window in this cityscape where my country childhood reaches to shake me awake.
