ANTI-DUMPING MEASURES APPEAR TO HELP STEEL INDUSTRY

* Steel imports fell sharply in February. Most of the drop occurred in products that are the subject of anti-dumping and countervailing-duty suits filed by United States steelmakers, reports the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Milton Deaner, AISI's president, said that although this was one month's number, "to the extent that the reduction reflects foreign producers' beginning to limit exports of dumped and subsidized steel to this market, it is welcome."
