COMPANY HOLIDAY PARTIES POPULAR BUT MORE MODEST

* Management is nervous about the economy, so company parties will be modest and low key this year.

A survey of 100 large companies, conducted by Battalia Winston International, a New York-based executive search firm, revealed that companies are planning holiday parties that are the same size or smaller than last year. Though gift giving to boost morale will be more prevalent this year than last, gifts to employees will be small.

A majority of employees want and expect parties, however, and most of the companies are planning to oblige.
