Getting Started - Sensibly

* Make your grocery list before you shop and try to stick to it. Use a coupon for a sale product for extra savings.

* Don't feel compelled to buy a product just because you have a coupon. If you don't need it, don't buy it. Beware of end-of-aisle displays. Most are legitimate specials, but sometimes supermarkets use these areas to unload products that aren't moving.

About these ads

* If it's a special, buy in quantity. But first make sure it's a bargain and that you'll use it.

* Look for trial sizes or new-product specials, which are often introduced with high-value coupons.

* Look for specially marked packages that have refunds and coupons printed on them. A few common areas include beauty aids, detergents, cereals, and condiments.

* Get a group of friends together and organize some sort of refund or coupon group where you can exchange ideas.
