Viewpoint (ABC, 11:35 p.m.- 1:05 a.m., EDT): Can a network TV forum focus on the problem of media preoccupation with the O. J. Simpson case without being part of the problem?

This edition of the show will try. It is, after all, the only network format of its kind devoted to media analysis. Moderated by ``Nightline'' anchor Ted Koppel, the program airs live before a studio audience. * SUNDAY

Masterpiece Theatre (PBS, 9-10:30 p.m.): ``The Best Intentions'' - a 1992 film with an Ingmar Bergman screenplay about his parents' love story - gets its American TV debut in a weekly three-parter. As a theatrical release, the drama, directed by Bille August, won two major awards at at the Cannes Film Festival: the Golden Palm, and Best Actress for Pernilla August's portrayal of Bergman's mother, Anna.

The film covers his parents' courtship and the first 10 years of their marriage, with lots of conflict generated by the contrast between Henrik's status as a poor theology student and the rich girl who becomes his wife.

Much of the action was filmed in the wilds of Sweden's frozen north, site of Henrik's first parish and a bleak setting for their early relationship. The cast also includes Max von Sydow as Anna's father.

Parts 2 and 3 air on the following two Sundays.
